The White Shirt

The white shirt has done every job. It has been evening wear. It has been uniform. It has been the private, tucked garment of a domestic interior.

What has never changed is its posture: it holds the wearer upright. There is a small formality in a pressed collar that no other piece of clothing can replicate.

Our Atelier Poplin shirt was drafted from a 1962 pattern in the archive of a small Bombay tailor. We altered the placket, softened the yoke, and lengthened the back hem for the way people actually stand today.

That, in the end, is our whole design method: adjust an archetype by a millimetre until it fits the present.
